Log ACGME cases without signing in every time

You do not have to open the ACGME Case Log after every case. Log each one in Capnolog on your phone; it never asks for your ACGME sign-in. At a computer, sign in to the official site yourself, and the Capnolog extension fills in your saved cases one at a time. You review each and press Submit.

By Christopher Cutler, MD, CA-1, anesthesiology

The ACGME Case Log is the system of record, and it lives on a website you sign in to. That works at a desk and falls apart between cases. The fix is not a faster sign-in; it is signing in less often. Capture the case on your phone now, and file it at a computer later.

Why does logging on the ACGME site mean signing in over and over?

The official ACGME Case Log is a web application inside the ACGME’s Accreditation Data System (ADS). Filing there means a browser, an ADS sign-in and the form, one case after another. Try that on a phone after each case and the sign-in becomes the reason the case waits.

Capnolog does not change that sign-in and does not try to. It changes how often you need it.

Log the case on your phone instead

Capnolog is a case log app for iPhone and Android. Logging a case in it never touches the ACGME site: open the app, enter the case against the fields the official form asks for, and it is saved on your phone.

Log it the same day, while the details are still fresh. Logging is free, for anesthesiology and neurosurgery residents.

File the batch at a computer when you have time

On a quiet evening or a weekend morning at a computer, sign in to the official ACGME Case Log yourself, in Chrome or Edge. The paired Capnolog extension has the cases you logged on your phone ready, fills in the first one, and waits for you.

You check every field against the case and press Submit, and the extension moves to the next one. It is one case at a time, never a bulk run. If a form option does not match cleanly, it stops and asks rather than guessing.

It reads your official list too, so a case already on your ACGME log is never offered twice. Pick a rhythm you will keep, such as once a week, so the official log stays close to current.

What does the extension never do?

It never signs in for you, never holds your ACGME password, and never presses Submit. It runs only on the ACGME site, in a browser session you signed in to yourself.

If you cannot get into ADS at all, ask the ACGME or your program coordinator. Capnolog cannot reset, speed up or get around the ACGME sign-in.

How do you set it up?

Once, from the phone. In Capnolog, open the Log tab and tap the ACGME card, then tap “Email me the extension link” and open that email on the computer you file from. Add the extension there, tap “Generate code” back in the app, and type the code into the extension.

The extension needs a Capnolog account. Filing with it is part of Capnolog Premium; logging your cases, and keeping them, is not.

Capnolog never signs in to the ACGME for you. You attest to every case you submit, so every Submit stays in your hands.
