Anesthesiology and neurological surgery today, with ENT and general surgery next. Pick your specialty when you set up the app. The specialty shapes the whole app. Anesthesiology gets chip-and-voice case capture, a night-before planner, and national-average targets alongside the ACGME minimums. Neurosurgery gets CPT-code logging, standalone procedure entries, and the ACGME defined-category minimums, with Lead and Lead + Senior counted separately. Five anesthesia fellowship frameworks ship as well: Adult Cardiothoracic, Pediatric, Pediatric Cardiac, Regional & Acute Pain, and Obstetric. Each fellowship counts against the ACGME minimum table for that fellowship, not the residency one. Medical students have their own install for tracking rotations.

No. There's no bulk import or API into the ACGME system. Capnolog is where you capture cases fast and track your progress. On submission day, the browser extension prefills the official ACGME form one case at a time — but you always review and press Submit yourself. The extension covers the anesthesiology case-log form today.

Capnolog never asks for a patient name, a date of birth, or a record number, and there is nowhere in the app to type one. One exception is worth naming rather than hiding. The browser extension reads your official ACGME list back. That list carries a free-text Case ID box that residents sometimes type a record number into. Capnolog masks that Case ID down to the last four characters at both edges before storing anything. Nothing is ever stored whole. Your de-identified case log syncs to Capnolog's zero-PHI server by default. Turn off Case sync in Settings to stop the sync and remove the log from the server. Voice parsing runs on-device.

Every supported iPhone (iOS 17 or later), and Android phones on Android 13 or later. Tapping cases in with chips and typing a case work on every phone the app runs on, including Android 7 through 12. Speaking one needs the on-device recogniser, which Android only provides from 13 onward. The parse runs on-device, fully offline, so nothing you say leaves the device.

Yes, in anesthesiology. Capnolog has a night-before planner: paste tomorrow's OR board, or build the plan from templates. Plan a few cases of the same kind, and Capnolog learns your usual drug regimen and fills all five drug fields in one tap. Dictate a whole plan hands-free instead, if you prefer. The next day, confirm a case with one tap to log the case, or batch-log the whole day at once. The structured patient block, history, and diagnosis live in an encrypted, biometric-locked block that clears the moment the case logs. The free-text procedure name and your plan notes are kept for review, so keep patient identifiers out of those two fields.

Only because you wrote the schedule in. Write your block year down once in Settings — thirteen blocks, each one a label, two dates, and optionally a hospital. A new case then opens at the hospital that schedule says you were at, with the form leading with what that rotation actually asks for. Capnolog never claims to know where you are. Capnolog reads back the schedule you wrote, and a case you backdate resolves against that month's blocks rather than today's. The schedule changes what you see, never what is counted or saved. Skip the whole thing and nothing changes.

In anesthesiology: export from the app, and open your ACGME Case Log in the browser. Let the Capnolog extension prefill each case for you to review and Save. The step-by-step guide in Help walks through the process. In neurosurgery, the extension doesn't cover the form yet. Capnolog is where you capture and track cases; file with the ACGME yourself.

Yes. Paste a case list from wherever you have one, or import a file — a CSV, or a PDF. A PDF is usually what a printed patient list really is. Capnolog reads the list into drafts you review before anything is saved. Capnolog names what could not be read instead of guessing. Capnolog compares the list against the cases you already have, so an import does not double your log. The document and the text read out of it never leave that screen.

Both. Everything you have logged sits in one archive. Search by procedure, room, surgeon or attending, narrow with quick filters, or pull up a day by tapping the calendar strip. A deleted case, plan or note goes to a bin for thirty days and restores in a tap. A separate history shows whether the app removed something or you did.

Yes — one free account, and it stays free. Sign in when you set Capnolog up: Sign in with Apple on iPhone, or a personal email address on either phone. The account stores an account ID, program, specialty, and class year, not your name or your cases. The account links your devices and the extension, and carries the extras your program gives you to a new phone. Logging and export are always free. See the Privacy Policy for verification and deletion details.

On iPhone, turn on iCloud Backup and your full log is end-to-end encrypted to your own iCloud, under a key only your devices hold. That backup goes to your iCloud, not to Capnolog. On Android, pick a backup folder and set a passphrase, and the encrypted file is written there. The passphrase is the key, and only you hold that passphrase. Either way, restore everything on a new phone in one tap. The backup never reaches Capnolog's servers.

Only optional, anonymous usage analytics — which features you use, tagged with your training year and program. That analytics feed never includes patient details, your name, case content, or a case ID. Turn analytics off anytime in Settings. Crash reporting is a separate opt-in.

Turn on “Share with program” on a template, or use the share row on an attending note. The template or note then appears for your co-residents from inside the app, so a new resident on service doesn't rebuild the template by hand. Attending notes are free-text, so record numbers and dates are stripped before anything leaves your phone, and you review the redacted wording. Nothing patient-identifying is ever sent, by construction. Your OR/room list can travel the same way, from Settings. Either way, a co-resident can send you a setup file you open today.

Only until you log the case, and always encrypted. The planner lets you set up tomorrow's OR board in advance. Patient-specific details live in an encrypted block, separate from your de-identified log, and never part of a shared file or ACGME export. Turn on iCloud Backup and those details are included, end-to-end encrypted, readable on your own devices alone. When you log the case, the structured patient block, history, and diagnosis clear at that moment, so the logged case stays de-identified like every other. The free-text procedure name and your plan notes are kept for review, encrypted on device and in that end-to-end-encrypted iCloud backup. Keep patient identifiers out of those two fields.

In anesthesiology, your program grades your case experience against the national average per category, not just the ACGME minimum. Capnolog tracks both lines for every category — the official minimum and the national-average volume — so "am I on track to graduate?" is a glance. Neurosurgery has no published national-average tier; there, Capnolog tracks the ACGME defined-category minimums on both the Lead and the Lead + Senior axes.

A Mac companion is in development — a desk-side app for planning and reviewing cases without picking up your phone. It will be part of Premium. The Mac companion is not available yet. Today the phone app is the whole product, and the browser extension is the piece that runs on a computer.

Yes. Capnolog runs on Android 7.0 or later, from the same codebase as the iPhone app, so capture, counting, and export work the same way. There is no Play Store listing yet. You get a signed build to install, the same way iPhone invites go out through TestFlight. Three things differ by platform. Backup on Android writes an encrypted file to a folder you choose with a passphrase you set, instead of iCloud. The app lock uses your fingerprint or face unlock instead of Face ID. Sign in with Apple is iPhone-only, so on Android you use a personal email address. On-device voice entry needs Android 13 or later; below that you tap or type.
