Share a case with a co-resident
Shared cases are in development and not on any phone yet. When they open, tap “Share with a co-resident” on a saved neurosurgery case, then pick the co-resident who scrubbed in.
By Christopher Cutler, MD, CA-1, anesthesiology
A case two residents scrubbed can end up in only one of their logs. A shared case puts the same case in front of the other resident to review. Shared cases are in development and switched off on every phone today, so these steps describe the build that is waiting.
- 1
Open a saved case
On a saved neurosurgery case, tap “Share with a co-resident.” Sharing needs your Capnolog account and one ACGME sign-in from the app.
- 2
Pick the co-resident who scrubbed in
The list under “Share this case with” shows residents from your ACGME program who use Capnolog, with their class year.
- 3
Check what travels, then tap “Share case”
The screen lists the date, the site, the attending, the procedure codes, and the roles. Patient details never travel: no name, record number, age, or note goes with the case.
The role you pick for the co-resident is a suggestion. The co-resident confirms or changes the role.
- 4
The co-resident reviews the draft
The case shows under “Shared with you” on the co-resident's Log tab. Review opens a draft that counts nowhere until the co-resident taps “Add to my log.”
Decline adds nothing to either log. You learn only that the co-resident declined.
- 5
One lead per case
A shared case has a single lead. When both residents say lead, the co-resident picks another role or asks you to change yours.
- 6
A case the co-resident already logged
When the co-resident may have logged the case already, the review offers Link these, Keep both, or Review later. Link these keeps every value the co-resident typed.
- 7
Send edits later
Changed the codes after sharing? Tap “Send edits.” The co-resident sees what changed and taps “Apply to my copy” or Dismiss.
