Set Capnolog up for your hospital

Five minutes here is why logging is a tap later. Each thing you set turns a field you would have filled into a default that is already right.

  1. 1

Add every hospital you rotate through

Settings → Program & roster → Hospitals → “Add a hospital.” Give each one the nickname you would actually say out loud — “the VA”, “Children's” — and mark the one you are at most as your primary site. That is the site a new case opens on.

  2. 2

Generate rooms instead of typing them

Rooms are added as ranges, not one at a time. Name an area (“Main OR”), give it a prefix and a number range, and Capnolog creates OR 1 through OR 24 for you. Add as many areas as the building has — a hundred rooms is one line of setup — and duplicate labels collapse into one.

The same editor sits behind “+ Add a room” in the plan editor, so you can add a location mid-week without leaving what you were doing.

  3. 3

Say which name on the board is yours

Settings → Program & roster → “Your name on the OR board.” This one is a consent step, not a preference: the board arrives with the whole department on it and your phone filters it, so until you confirm which name is you, Capnolog genuinely cannot tell your rooms from anyone else's.

If your Plan tab has been quiet for weeks with a program set, this is almost always why.

  4. 4

    Set your training dates once

Settings → Personal & training holds your program, your role, and your training dates. Your year is worked out from those dates rather than from a switch you have to remember to flip — and if your program's calendar is unusual, you can override the year by hand.

  5. 5

    Nothing here is required

You can log a case with none of it done. Every item just removes a decision from later: the site a case assumes, the room list you scroll, the attending list you search.

Hospitals, rooms and attendings are location and provider data. Nothing about a patient is stored in any of them.
